Monterey Hotel/Chief Seattle
Chief Seattle Club and Monterey Hotel Lofts Seattle, WA
Lund Opsahl provided structural engineering services for the renovation, seismic strengthening, and a one-floor addition to a historic Pioneer Square brick and wood frame building, built in the 1890s. The main floor is home to the Chief Seattle Club, which includes a circular gathering room, kitchen, and social services space. Eleven loft-style rental units occupy the upper floors.
Liquefiable soil conditions required special foundation solutions to support braced frames for the seismic retrofit.
Green building techniques were incorporated, including solar panels on the roof, rainwater reuse, recycled materials and heat exchangers.
