San Antonio Zoo Africa Live!
San Antonio Zoo Africa Live! San Antonio, TX
This exhilarating nine-acre exhibit included the design of both view and animal holding buildings. The project also included the design for the second-largest aviary in the world, an interesting cable-stayed structure enclosing a forest for both birds and Colobus Monkeys.
Lund Opsahl was also involved in the design of a number of concrete trees inside the exhibit.
Children delight at encountering a hippopotamus, nose-to-nose, in the viewing building. To restrain the hippos and their eight-foot-deep pools, Lund Opsahl designed customized thick glass, a design load overlooked in the building codes!
Other features in this nine-acre exhibit include “rock” walls, aquariums, a Nile crocodile exhibit, the Barazza Café, and a termite mound to crawl through and watch the hunting dogs at play.
