Cottonwood Canyon Experience Center

Beautiful, young, and rugged Cottonwood Canyon State Park is one of Oregon State Parks’ largest parks, recently opened in 2013. With more than 8,000 acres of land to explore, users can hike, horseback ride, hunt in the canyons and rocky grasslands and boat, fish, and hike along the John Day River.

The park’s day use area includes the Cottonwood Canyon Experience Center, a 1,500 SF research cabin and outhouse that also serves as a popular gathering place for events at the park. Lund Opsahl provided structural engineering services for this building.

Construction includes light-framed wood walls with a gabled roof, concrete foundations, and fireplace.
