Hing Hay Park
The expansion of this important urban park/plaza in Seattle’s Chinatown International District is part of a revitalization effort for this well-established community. Double its original size, features include a cultural performance space; custom integrated seating; and activity areas for ping-pong, seating, exercise machines, and trees. Additional features include planted terraces, lighting, utilities, sidewalk improvements and ADA accessibility.
A stunning, new 17×40 foot-long gateway steel sculpture resembles origami art, serving as a park entry with the ability to hold banners and a movie screen from the structure.
The park’s design makes use of a portion of the adjacent post office building’s concrete wall for a sound barrier, and it also serves as a safety separation for a north side parking lot. To stabilize the reused wall, the design team integrated a steel trellis. Additional features include retaining walls and structured seating platforms.
