Mother Nation’s Spirit Journey Healing Village
Mother Nation’s Spirit Journey Healing Village will provide a sanctuary for Native women and their families, offering culturally informed healing services, safe transitional housing, and comprehensive support to address generational trauma, domestic violence, sexual assault, and substance abuse.
Located on four residential lots south of Seattle, the Village follows a “village concept,” with four structures arranged around a shared courtyard featuring a fire pit, gardens, a playground, and a sweat lodge for traditional ceremonies. The Common House includes a kitchen, gathering space, healing rooms, childcare, offices, and residences for staff and new community members. Three additional houses provide supportive housing for mothers with children, sexual assault survivors, and single women. Site security is prioritized with fencing, gated entries, and inward-facing porches.
The design draws from Salish longhouse traditions while meeting modern needs. Each two-story, stepped-gable structure orients roofs for solar panels to achieve Net Zero energy. Durable, sustainable materials, such as structural insulated panels, cement plank siding, and heavy timber porches with carved cedar columns, reflect cultural heritage while ensuring longevity.
