Olympic College Shops Remodel
The global renovation and 3,500 SF entryway addition at Olympic College revitalizes the existing Shops facility—originally built in 1967—to better support three primary workforce development programs: Welding Technology, Technical Design, and Precision Machining. Lund Opsahl provided structural design for the renovation and expansion, addressing accessibility, safety, and instructional deficiencies while integrating the new on-campus Composites Shop. Scope included a new entry vestibule with a pop-up roof and expressive steel bent frames, extensive new openings in the pre-cast concrete exterior to increase natural light, full reconstruction of the interior mezzanine with a new elevator for accessibility, and selective strengthening of existing concrete footings. This approach avoided a major alteration and delivered significant cost savings to the College, creating a unified, light-filled environment that fosters learning, innovation, and collaboration among students and instructors alike.
