Smokedrift Residence
Cut into a gently sloping hillside, this sprawling, two-story, residence features floor-to-ceiling windows in all three wings, providing its residents full enjoyment of the natural surroundings. Intentionally situated porches off the great room and the private wing provide additional spaces for outdoor tranquility during the warm summer months.
Structural moments celebrate the integration of wood and steel construction throughout the house. Exposed roof joists extend from interior steel beam supports across exterior walls to support large overhangs in a visible display of structural continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces. Supplemental structural elements hidden from view in the roof assembly allow the architectural vision for the roof to come to life at all angles. Exterior wood support posts add intrigue with custom designed steel cruciform bases that disappear into the subgrade.
From every angle, Smokedrift is a celebration of structure working hand in hand with architecture.
