Acid Ball Installation
An homage to Bellingham’s industrial past, the acid accumulator of the closed 1920s Georgia Pacific pulp mill has been transformed into a breathtaking public art installation. Relocated closer to the shore of the former mill site, now converted into a public park, the acid ball sits in a spot that aligns it with view corridors along the Whatcom Waterway. The acid ball was also coated with high index glass beads – the same material used to make lane lines reflective – and will stand as a beacon of Bellingham’s past and commitment to a sustainable future. Lund Opsahl provided structural engineering services for the installation of the sculpture.
