Orenda at Othello Square
Orenda at Othello Square adds 176 new workforce housing units to South Seattle, conveniently located near Sound Transit’s Othello Light Rail Station and other public transit hubs, providing residents with easy access to key resources from Northgate to Angle Lake.
The building offers one- to three-bedroom apartments for individuals earning 60% or more of the area median income (AMI). It features a community center, two floors of commercial space, and an underground parking garage. Lund Opsahl also served as the Structural Engineer of Record for the Seattle Children’s Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic and a daycare center occupying the first and second floors.
The project shares a shoring system with an adjacent structure. Its structural design comprises light-framed wood bearing walls over three levels of post-tensioned concrete, with a large “column-free” community space that includes vibration mitigation measures.
As part of the Southeast Economic Opportunity Center (SEOC) campus, Orenda contributes to a culturally diverse and welcoming gateway center. The campus reflects the international character of Southeast Seattle, providing homes, educational opportunities, family-wage jobs, healthcare, social services, and a range of small businesses for the community to shop, eat, and play.
