Last week, members of our team had the opportunity to visit the ongoing construction at Byrd Barr Place with architects SHKS. Originally a firehouse serving the central district, the 113 year old structure is currently home to a food bank that will soon have expanded facilities, community meeting spaces, and an ADA upgrade throughout. The complexities of navigating new structural elements through a building subjected to multiple renovations throughout its life has given project manager Rebecca Rumann the opportunity to collaborate closely with the GC RAFN on-site, keeping the project on-time and on-budget as anticipated but unpredictable structural oddities are discovered. Rumann guided the group of engineers and architects through the site with an eye towards the adaptations to the design that have been made as construction has progressed.
