Close collaboration and exacting attention to detail are hallmarks of every luxury residential project, and the process for this Central Washington home envisioned by Tokul Design was no exception. Oriented so as to guide occupants towards a monumental concrete fireplace, exposed steel bent frames serve dual structural and architectural functions, supporting the roof as well as facilitating vaulted ceilings above expansive window walls. In order to maintain the appearance of continuous members at the frames, Lund Opsahl worked with general contractor Town and County Homes and their steel fabricator to develop details and a site welding plan that unify the individual frame components into a structurally and visually unbroken whole. As a result, essential structural framing was elevated to elegant architectural expression.
